Culture on the mountain

at over 2,275 m

The Kronplatz has much more to offer than “just” skiing, hiking or biking. There are two museums worth seeing right at the summit: the MMM Corones and the LUMEN.

MMM Corones

The MMM Corones is one of the six Messner Mountain Museums. Corones is all about traditional alpinism, which Reinhold Messner had a decisive influence on. But a visit is not only worthwhile because of the exhibition. The museum is the last architectural project by the world-renowned Zaha Hadid, known for her free-form architecture that blends with nature and the environment. With its unmistakable museum building, it has managed to capture the spectacular view that one has form Plan de Corones, which gives the museum a view in all directions beyond the national borders.

LUMEN

In the LUMEN, which is sponsored by National Geographic, 1,800 square metres are dedicated to mountain photography. Spanning four floors LUMEN offers the possibility to experience the history of mountain photography from its beginnings until the present as well as displaying the art of mountain-photographers from all over the world.

We particularly like the room of mirrors, with an artistic-poetic consideration of the specific atmosphere of the mountains. And gourmets will also like the LUMEN, because the bistro AlpINN from star chef Norbert Niederkofler is right next door.
